Conditional Undergraduate Admission
Through Conditional Admission, international students may be accepted for University Undergraduate Admission while still working to satisfy WWU’s language proficiency requirement for full admission. Students accepted for Conditional Admission must have a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (paper-based)/173 (computer-based)/61 (iBT) and must fulfill all other requirements for undergraduate admissions.
Before enrolling in their first credit class at Western, conditionally-admitted students typically attend the Intensive English Program full-time for at least one quarter and take the IEP Academic English classes (Academic Preparation, writing, reading, and oral communications). After successfully completing the Academic Preparation class and scoring at least 520/190/68 on the TOEFL, students enroll in regular university classes, in addition to a lighter load of Academic English classes.
The Conditional Admission student will be fully-admitted to the university upon successfully completing Academic English, satisfying WWU’s TOEFL requirement of 550 (paper-based)/213 (computer-based)/80 iBT, and demonstrating the ability to succeed in an English 101 or writing proficiency course at Western. Students are expected to maintain a 2.75 GPA while in Conditional Admission status.
Students may apply for Conditional Admission by enrolling first in the Intensive English Program, or they may apply directly to the Office of Admissions.
